Privacy Policy

What we collect

We collect your name, email address, and the content you save (articles, PDFs, highlights, notes, and tags). We also store metadata associated with saved content such as URLs, publication dates, and reading progress.

How we store it

All data is stored in a PostgreSQL database and, for PDFs, on the server filesystem. MineReads is self-hosted — your data stays on the server you (or your administrator) controls. We do not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising.

Cookies

MineReads uses only strictly necessary cookies for authentication (session tokens). We do not use advertising, tracking, or preference cookies. No cookie consent banner is needed because we only use essential cookies exempt under the ePrivacy Directive.

Analytics

We use Umami, a privacy-focused, cookieless analytics tool. It collects anonymous, aggregated page view data (page URL, referrer, browser, country) without setting cookies or collecting personal information. No data is shared with third parties. You cannot be identified from this data.

Third-party services

  • OpenAI — used for book-page OCR (camera scan feature). Images you scan are sent to OpenAI's API and subject to their privacy policy.
  • Google reCAPTCHA — used on login and registration forms to prevent automated abuse. Subject to Google's privacy policy.

Your rights

  • Access — you can export all your data at any time from Settings → Export Data.
  • Deletion — you can permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Delete Account.
  • Correction — you can update your name, email, and password in Settings.

Data retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, all data (items, highlights, tags, and uploaded PDFs) is permanently deleted.
